It was 52 YEARS ago to the day that the 2nd and 3rd Brambles Red these completing 3 special XA Falcon GTs walked down the line prepared for competition this XA 3 was called the spare car it was the one and only XA Falcon GT-HO PHASE IV to be completed in 1972 XA 3 was absent from the Lot 6 when the journalist were invited to see the Allan Moffat & Fred Gibson cars being built, A few years back in an interview Bruce (Hoddo) stated that if the HO IV went into full production he was going to be driving the XA 3 for the Ford works team see the photos and descriptions below to understand that XA 3 was not in the picture . Why? it was completed and at Calder Park then Ford proving ground for finalising the PHASE IV spec after the super car crisis XA 3 was returned to Lot 6 then changed slightly to rally spec. This was not to Hoddo's satisfaction causing engine failure because of the incorrect ride height , so Howard Marsden gave permission for Bruce to take XA 3 to Griffith NSW to prepare to his satisfaction & register the car the Lot 6 motor was replaced with a special engine from an earlier March 1972 built XA GT
