ONE SUNDAY 25th JUNE 1972 FRONT PAGE of THE SUN-HERALD newspaper in BOLD FONT

Newly appointed Editor Paul Whitehead due to nothing newsworthy exciting enough to make the front page the new editor decided to run a story by the new Motoring Editor Evan Green which is usually is in the back pages, instead it was posted on the front page to have a sensational impact by posting the headline in BOLD font 160MPH SUPERCARS SOON!

The Ford and motor racing fans placed all the blame on Evan Green and the Government of the day . Little do some realise that since the first Ford XW FALCON GT-HO was released in August 1969 the government were out to stop cars of these high speed capabilities being produced for road use, it was not until around 3 years later the media and government succeeded in pressuring Ford resulting in the banning of these Supercars as they required manufacturers to have sold 200 units as road registered cars to qualify for the famous Bathurst 500 annual enduro event. With a win at Bathurst it was elementary. The car sales managers to often say "WIN on Sunday sell on Monday"
